The Mountain Spa in Karlova Studánka

The state owned treatment spa in Karlova Studánka is located at an altitude of 800 m above the sea level, in the valley of the Bílá Opava river, whose source is on the eastern slopes of the Praděd Mountain. This area is well known as a spa and a mountain recreation centre. The village is located in the centre of wooded land having a surface of over 1000 square metres, part of which belongs to the nature reserve on the Praděd Mountain. Due to this location and, also, to the fact that there are no major sources of pollution nearby, this mountain spa has been proclaimed the place with the cleanest air in Central Europe. The foundation of the spa in Karlova Studánka is due to the healing mineral springs found here. The resort offers excellent year-round conditions for recreation, hiking, cycling, cross-country skiing and downhill skiing (including evening skiing). In winter, there are regular buses connecting Karlova Studánka to other well-known resorts in the Jeseníky Mountains. The Priessnitz Spa in Jeseník

The Priessnitz spa is situated in a picturesque location on the slope of the “Studniční vrch” Mountain, at an altitude of approx. 620 m above sea level. The Priessnitz spa is the dominant feature in the surrounding area; however, its setting has been planned to harmonise with the landscape. The spa has exceptionally favourable climatic conditions and allows guests to be treated in all the seasons of the year. There is also the possibility of a short-term spa programme, designed to increase physical and mental fitness. The spa owes its existence and, later, its fame to Vincenz Priessnitz, who, in the year 1822, founded the first known hydrotherapeutic facilities on the Gräfenberg Mountain in Silesia. In the vicinity, especially on the slopes of the “Studniční vrch” Mountain, there are 80 registered and named springs. At present, the Priessnitz Spa has more than 20,000 guests a year. Water sports

The possibilities to provide water sports have significantly improved after the building of the Slezská Harta equalizing reservoir on the Moravice river. The large water surface with clean water, surrounded by countryside that has been very little affected by civilisation, attracts those who love fishing, bathing, and, especially, water sailing and other similar sports.

Yachting and Boat Rentals at Slezská Harta

Slezská Harta is one of the water reservoirs that offer the best conditions for yachting in the Czech Republic. In the year 2003, in the bay of the Slezská Harta reservoir, not far from the Nová Pláň village, the first sailing boat service – Yachtsport – was opened, offering also sailing courses for beginners and advanced yachtsmen. Sailing for visitors to Slezská Harta is also offered here. For more information see: http://www.slezskaharta.eu/.

Diving

In the village of Svobodné Heřmanice, in one of the former major centres for mining roofing slate, there is a flooded quarry, which is the favourite destination for divers from all around the Czech Republic, but also from neighbouring Poland. The quarry is visible from a long distance, since it is located approximately 450 m above the sea level; it is approx. 500 m long, 50-70 m wide, and 37 m deep and access is directly into deep water; in the year 2007 a steel pier was built for open-water swimming, divers, and other holiday makers.

Sports activities in winter

Opportunities for climbing

The Rabštejn Castle Ruins (803 m n. m.)

The Rabštejn rock area is located in the southern protrusion of the “Hrubý Jeseník” (High Jeseníky Mountain) range, 16 kilometres west of Rýmařov. There are two 20-35 metre high fortress walls of metadiabase rock; for climbers they represent two main groups of towers: “Přední skály” (the Front Rocks) and “Zadní skály” (the Back Rocks). “Dolní skály” (the Lower Rocks) are of less importance for climbers. The terrain allows up to 180 climbing routes, mostly with climbing grade 3 to 6 UIAAs, but also 7 and 8, and two routes with climbing grade 9. On the meadow below the rocks there is a public camp and also a restaurant on site.

The Dobřečov Rocks (770 m n. m.)

Close to the village of Dobřečov – administratively belonging to Horní Město – there are approximately 10 metre high isolated phyllonite rock formations that are used as a natural climbing wall. The rocks are on private land, access to them is free of charge and the principles of decent and respectful behaviour are requested of all visitors. The rocks are accessible on foot, on the asphalt field road that leads from the church in Dobřečov (where it is possible to park the car) towards the Ferdinandov hamlet; after approx. 50 metres, at a slight bend in the road, turn left on the field road leading towards the wood surrounding the rocks.
